Madden Brothers was founded in 1979, by Robert G. Madden Jr.

The company was initially established to generate additional income and serve as an educational tool for his two sons Bob and Brian. The primary focus was on bulk landscape supplies. As the business grew, Bob and Brian took an active role in its growth. In 1986 the brothers took over full control, while utilizing just one pick-up truck along with a lawn and garden tractor.

Working their way through high school and saving for college, Bob and Brian decided to incorporate in 1991. By now the company had accumulated two more dump trucks and an articulating wheel loader. However, because bulk supplies are seasonal, the brothers began looking for other sources of revenue in their off season. This quest to diversify led them to form a maintenance and landscape installation division. Due to their rapid growth, however, they soon outgrew their home facility.

After Bob had graduated with a degree in political science and Brian was entering his freshman year studying economics, the brothers purchased thirteen acres of commercial land to expand their business. Because of the property’s public exposure, the company began growing at an exponential rate. With the increased demand for landscape services and supplies, they continued purchasing the necessary equipment and hiring the appropriate personnel.

Having both obtained their Bachelors degrees, in 1998 their commitment to the Green Industry was announced through the construction of their new 10,000 square foot, 13.3 acre recycling facility. Currently they remain one of Northern Ohio’s largest producers of bulk landscape products including mulches, compost, soils and firewood. Their EPA Class IV registered recycling facility serves many local municipalities, businesses and homeowners.

Additionally, the company is actively involved with their local communities and trade organizations to promote wood-waste-recycling and landscape beautification.
